A Message from SSU President Jeff Bauer:

Almost exactly one year ago, our world as we knew it changed instantly — and drastically.

Now, as vaccines become more available and the spread of coronavirus decreases, we’re making plans for a full return to campus life by Fall 2021.

That means a return to in-person classes, on-ground student life events, ticketed athletic competitions, and a full range of academic and co-curricular activities.

It all starts soon, too, with Spring Commencement. We are committed to holding Spring Commencement outside and in-person — rain or shine! We’ll have some safety protocols in place, of course, and will likely have to limit seating and hold more than one ceremony.

It’s a return to a more traditional campus environment — while continuing a focus on community health and wellness.

Navigating the pandemic has prompted innovation and the adoption of new technologies on campus that will continue to improve the way we meet the needs of our students for many years to come. We have learned a great deal about course and service delivery, ways in which to strike a better work-life balance, and creative ways to continue to advance teaching and learning at all levels. Our Fall 2021 semester will reflect some of these lessons learned, particularly in the areas of increased flexibility, online instruction, and student engagement.

As we move forward, we will continue to follow state and federal guidelines and make any necessary adjustments to our plans. We will also continue to support community initiatives to promote and provide vaccination opportunities and do our part in facilitating a safe return to in-person events and activities.

I know this has been a challenging year. Hang in there. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter and is more in focus than at any other point during the pandemic.
