Shawnee State University offers several undergraduate pathways designed to prepare students for application to the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program. Students may select any major while completing the MOT prerequisite coursework; however, the pathways below provide structured advising to support students interested in occupational therapy.
Completion of a Pre-MOT pathway does not guarantee admission into the MOT program. Applicants must meet all current MOT admission requirements and deadlines.
Pre-MOT Pathways
Students may complete one of the following bachelor's degrees while fulfilling MOT prerequisite requirements:
- Health Science Bachelor’s Degree
- Exercise Science Bachelor’s Degree
- Psychology/Pre-Occupational Therapy Bachelor's Degree
- Occupational Therapy Bachelor’s to Master’s 3+2
Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy (BSOT) to Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) 3+2 Program
The Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy (BSOT) to Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) 3+2 program at Shawnee State University is direct-entry pathway designed for students committed to pursuing a career in occupational therapy. Students admitted to the BSOT program receive an assured seat in the MOT program, contingent upon successful completion of all progression requirements. During the undergraduate phase, students complete coursework that establishes a foundation in health sciences, occupational science, and professional preparation. Upon successful completion of progression requirements, students transition into graduate-level MOT coursework.

- Assured seat in the Master of Occupational Therapy program upon successful completion of progression requirements

- Seamless progression into graduate-level coursework upon meeting program standards
Admissions Information
Admission to the BSOT to MOT 3+2 program is selective and competitive. Students accepted into the BSOT pathway receive an assured seat in the MOT program, provided all progression requirements are met.
To be considered for admission, applicants must:
- Have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0
- Have a minimum ACT Math score of 22 and a minimum ACT composite score of 24
- Submit an undergraduate application to Shawnee State University
- Submit a graduate application for the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program
- Complete 20 volunteer hours supervised by a licensed occupational therapist (OTR/L) before applying to the BSOT 3+2 program;
- Complete 20 additional volunteer hours before beginning MOT coursework (40 total hours required prior to enrollment); and
- Submit a completed Volunteer Evaluation Form from the supervising occupational therapist: Volunteer Evaluation Form
- Meet all published application requirements and deadlines established by the MOT program
The $30 graduate application fee is deferred until the third year of the program.
Progression Requirements
Students who successfully meet all progression requirements will retain their assured seat and transition into the MOT program.
To progress from the BSOT program into the MOT program, students must:
- Successfully complete all required undergraduate coursework within the BSOT curriculum;
- Maintain academic standards established by the MOT program;
- Complete all required volunteer experience and documentation;
- Submit all required graduate application materials by the published deadlines; and
- Meet all progression requirements in effect at the time of transition into the MOT program.
Students admitted to the BSOT to MOT 3+2 pathway are provided with an assured seat in the MOT program. Retention of the assured seat is contingent upon successful completion of all undergraduate coursework, maintenance of required academic standards, completion of volunteer experience and documentation, and fulfillment of all progression requirements established by the MOT program.
