While Dr. Rhoni Maxwell-Rader's primary areas are clinical and developmental, she considers herself more of a generalist  with a wide variety of interests, including personality, women's issues, health & wellness, and career-related issues. Her primary area of interest/expertise is in death education and counseling. Dr. Rader has also served as coordinator of the psychology internship program for 10 years. Additionally, she has been honored for her skill in the classroom and service to students, being nominated for both the college of arts & sciences teaching award and the Shawnee Bear Hug award. In 2012, she was also named an SSU Outstanding Mentor.

Outside of the classroom, Dr. Rader is involved in the local community, serving as president of the Southern Ohio Performing Arts Association. She also is involved with the Portsmouth Area Ladies (PALS), The Counseling Center's Celebrity Chef annual fundraiser, the Dorothy Knost Children's Summer Music Workshop, the Cornerstone UMC Praise Team, the Great Dames book club, and the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
