Through our agreement with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), you can receive early acceptance to medical, dental, podiatry, or pharmacy school. These programs guarantee you a spot in professional school before starting or in the first two years of your Shawnee State University pre-medical education.
College of Osteopathic Medicine
(up to 5 students per year)
Eligibility: must meet all requirements
- U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident
- High school student or SSU student with less than 60 credits
- High school GPA ≥ 3.50 or for SSU students who have completed at least one semester cumulative post-secondary GPA ≥ 3.40 with a science GPA ≥ 3.30
- ACT not required but recommended
Academic requirements to matriculate at LECOM: must meet all requirements
- Major in Biology on the Biomedical Sciences Track
- Successfully complete at least 15 credit hours each semester
- Earn a grade of C or better in all required medical school prerequisite courses
- A failing grade in any course, even those that are not medical school prerequisites, will result in dismissal from the EAP (note: withdrawal while failing will also result in dismissal from the program)
- Maintain a cumulative GPA ≥ 3.40 with a science GPA ≥ 3.30
- Graduate from SSU with a BS in Biology on the Biomedical Sciences Track
Benefits:
- Provisional acceptance to medical school while still in high school or during first two years of college
- MCAT not required if AIS is 115 or greater which can be achieved with an ACT ≥ 26 and cumulative post-secondary GPA ≥ 3.4 (more info about AIS in student manual)
- AACOMAS application not required; only have to fill out LECOM application
How to Apply:
School of Dental Medicine
(up to 5 students per year)
Eligibility: must meet all requirements
- U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident
- High school student or SSU student with less than 60 credits
- ACT score ≥ 26
- High school GPA ≥ 3.50 or for SSU students who have completed at least one semester cumulative GPA ≥ 3.40 with a science GPA ≥ 3.30

- Graduate from SSU with a BS in Biology on the Biomedical Sciences Track

How to Apply:
School of Podiatric Medicine
(up to 2 students per year)
Eligibility: must meet all requirements
- U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident
- High school student or SSU student with less than 60 credits
- Must submit an official ACT or SAT score
- High school GPA ≥ 3.00 or for SSU students who have completed at least one semester cumulative GPA ≥ 3.40 with a science GPA ≥ 3.30
Academic requirements to matriculate at LECOM: must meet all requirements
- Major in Biology on the Biomedical Sciences Track
- Successfully complete at least 15 credit hours each semester
- Earn a grade of C or better in all required podiatry school prerequisite courses

- Maintain a cumulative GPA ≥ 3.20 with a science GPA ≥ 3.00
- Score ≥ 490 on the MCAT
- Graduate from SSU with a BS in Biology on the Biomedical Sciences Track

How to Apply:
School of Pharmacy
(up to 5 students per year)
Eligibility: must meet all requirements
- U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident
- High school student or SSU student with less than 60 credits
- Must submit an official ACT or SAT score
- High school GPA ≥ 3.00 or for SSU students who have completed at least one semester cumulative GPA ≥ 3.20 with a science GPA ≥ 3.00
Academic requirements to matriculate at LECOM: must meet all requirements
- Major in Chemistry on the Pre-Pharmacy Track
- Successfully complete at least 15 credit hours each semester
- Earn a grade of C or better in all required pharmacy school prerequisite courses
- A failing grade in any course, even those that are not podiatry school prerequisites, will result in dismissal from the EAP (note: withdrawal while failing will also result in dismissal from the program)
- Maintain a cumulative GPA ≥ 3.20 with a science GPA ≥ 3.00
- Graduation/course completion requirements:
- For students on the 4+4 track: graduate with a BS in Chemistry on the Pre-Pharmacy Track
- For students on the 3+4 track: completion of at least 90 credit hours at SSU including completion of all pharmacy school prerequisite courses and the SSU GEP; students receive BS degree from SSU after successful completion of year 1 at LECOM School of Pharmacy
- For students on the 2+ track: completion of at least 60 credit hours at SSU including completion of all pharmacy school prerequisite courses; students do not receive an undergraduate degree
Benefits:
- Provisional acceptance to pharmacy school while still in high school or during first two years of college
- PCAT is not required
