Beginning January 3, 2026, Shawnee State University will charge for parking during Shawnee State athletic events held at Rhodes Athletic Center. The parking lots affected are the A1 Health Sciences and A2 Athletics lots to the south of Rhodes Athletic Center, and the B2 Reserved lot to the north.

Parking fees will be required to park in lots A1, A2, and B2 during events held at Rhodes Athletic Center.

Signs will be posted on lots during events that require a parking fee. The fee will be $5.40 per car and can be paid by scanning a QR code or visiting a website link posted on signs in each lot.

Those who display a Reserved or Athletic-endorsed permit issued by Shawnee State University will be allowed to park in event lots without paying an additional fee. SSU Golden Bears will also be permitted to park without charge if a parking pass is visible on their vehicle.

Parking fees will apply to all athletic contests and events held at Rhodes Athletic Center. SSU’s Department of Public Safety will monitor lots and may issue tickets or tow those who are not permitted to park in an event lot.

Athletic Parking FAQs

When will athletic event parking fees be implemented?
Event parking for Shawnee State’s athletic events will take effect in January 2026. The first event in 2026 is scheduled on Saturday, January 3, 2026.

Who is responsible for paying parking fees?
Anyone who parks in a designated event parking lot without a season pass, athletic parking permit, or reserved parking permit purchased through the Department of Public Safety.

How do I purchase a season ticket or reserved parking permit? 
Season tickets for athletic events may be purchased by contacting Athletic Director Gerald Cadogan at (740) 351-3393 or gcadogan@shawnee.edu

University reserved parking permits may be purchased by visiting the new SSU Parking Portal, contacting the Department of Public Safety at DPSParking@shawnee.edu or by calling (740) 351-4377. You may also visit the DPS office in the Administration Building, Room 023.

What parking lots will require a fee?
Guests who park in lots A1, A2, and B2 will be required to pay the parking fee. These lots are directly in front of and behind the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center. View Campus Map with Parking Designations

Anyone with a season pass, athletic parking permit, or reserved parking permit purchased through the Department of Public Safety will not be required to pay the parking fee.

Where on campus can I park for free?
Guests may park anywhere on campus for free except for lots A1, A2, and B2. View Campus Map with Parking Designations.

How much will I be charged for parking?
Event parking is $5 per vehicle. A $0.40 processing fee will be added to the payment, making the total $5.40 to park. 

How do I pay the parking fee?
You will have two options to pay for event parking:

  1. Option 1: Pay in advance through the ParkMobile app or online directly through the ParkMobile webpage. 
  2. Option 2: Pay when you arrive at the event using the ParkMobile app and/or QR code provided in the event parking lot. There will be a sign at the entrance of the lot with instructions.


Will I receive confirmation of my payment?
You will receive confirmation electronically when the payment is processed. DPS officers will be patrolling the parking lot and can also verify whether your payment was received. 

Can I use cash to pay the parking fee?
Cash will not be accepted.

What if I don’t have a smartphone to scan the code or visit the link?

What happens if I do not pay the parking fee?
Depending on the location, you could be cited $25 (General Parking Fine) up to $250 (Unauthorized Handicap Parking), and possibly be towed.

When will the event parking lot open?
Event parking lots will open at least one hour before the event starts. 

Does the parking fee apply to non-athletic events?
Event parking fees are currently limited to Shawnee State athletic events.
