In instances of very severe weather, the University may cancel or delay classes.
If a closure or delay is necessary, the following channels will be used to communicate:
1. University Email
An official message will be sent directly to Shawnee email accounts with details about any closure, cancellation, or change to normal campus operations.
2. Text Alerts (Emergency Notification System)
Those enrolled in the emergency notification system will receive a text message with closure information.
3. University Website
Closure information will be prominently displayed on the SSU homepage. Additional details and FAQs may be posted as needed.
4. Social Media
Updates will be shared on Shawnee’s official Facebook and Instagram accounts.
5. Local Media Outlets
Weather-related closures will also be reported to regional TV and radio stations. While helpful, these should supplement—not replace—direct university communications (email/text/website).
Important Information:
In the event classes are cancelled or delayed, students are expected to check Blackboard and their SSU email for instructions from faculty regarding assignments.
