The Department of Natural Sciences at Shawnee State University has a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Marshall University School of Pharmacy (MUSOP) to provide clear, guided pathways for students interested in earning a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.

Under this agreement, MUSOP offers preferential consideration each admission cycle to Shawnee State students who meet the minimum academic and transfer requirements outlined in the MOU.

Two Pathways to a Pharm.D.

1. Pre-Pharmacy Pathway – Students complete the designated pre-pharmacy coursework at Shawnee State University before applying to the Marshall University School of Pharmacy. Applicants who meet the required GPA and course prerequisites receive preferential consideration during the admissions process.

2. Accelerated 3+1 Pathway – Students complete the first three years of the B.S. in Chemistry (Pre-Pharmacy track) at Shawnee State and then apply for admission to MUSOP.

Admission to MUSOP is competitive and not automatic; all applicants must meet MUSOP’s admissions standards and successfully complete the application and interview process.

Students who are accepted and complete their first year of study at MUSOP will have those credits applied toward their B.S. in Chemistry at Shawnee State, allowing them to earn both the bachelor’s degree and the Pharm.D. in approximately seven years—one year sooner than the traditional timeline.

Students in this pathway also remain eligible for preferential consideration under the terms of the MOU.
