Two sororities at Shawnee State University are not letting COVID stop their recruitment activities.
“Recruitment week is a chance to get to know the sorority chapters at Shawnee so you can decide which sorority is the best fit for you,” Cameran Noel, a sister of Delta Phi Epsilon, explained.
This year at SSU, recruitment week includes virtual events Sept. 15-17, planned on the online conference platform Zoom, where sisters from Delta Phi Epsilon and Theta Phi Alpha will meet with women interested in joining.
Cami Shoemaker, a sister of Theta Phi Alpha defined a sorority as “a group of women who work together to pursue opportunities to volunteer, take leadership positions, and form a network of people that can positively impact the rest of their lives.”
These organizations provide young women with volunteer opportunities, charity events, and a sisterhood that will last a lifetime, Shoemaker said. Some activities include canned good collections, a local blood drive, and support for the area’s homeless.
Both sororities are offering online virtual recruitment due to the unexpected COVID19 pandemic. But how can the recruitment process still be engaging and memorable if it’s all virtual?
Shoemaker said her chapter plans on asking interesting questions and encouraging all of the potential new members to answer them to ensure that they feel involved and that the hosts are interested in them, even though it is through a different technology rather than face to face.
“Even though everything is virtual, the sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon have worked very hard to make the recruitment process just as fun and welcoming as it would have been in person,” Noel said.
“We are welcoming anyone who wants to join to attend our recruitment events where you will learn more information about the sorority, the new member process, our philanthropies, and what it means to be a member of Delta Phi Epsilon. Any other questions can be answered at these meetings as well.”
Both chapters Delta Phi Epsilon and Theta Phi Alpha are looking forward to this week’s activities and are welcoming all new member to stop by their virtual events throughout the week.
