“Cybersecurity is up and coming,” said Reid. “It keeps me on my toes and keeps me excited. I feel that I will always have job options once I get out of college.”

Growing up in the small town of Coal Grove, Ohio, Reid was evaluating several schools to attend, but made a swift decision to attend SSU for her degree.

“Shawnee State has a super welcoming environment, a lot of majors, and a lot of opportunities which interested me,” she said.

While on campus, Reid has enjoyed exploring the university’s inclusive environment and diverse range of majors. Aiding to her goal of having a flexible career, she feels SSU’s reputation of providing students a lot of opportunities will help shape more job opportunities in her future.

SSU’s Information Security program teaches students how to detect and defend against network infrastructure attacks by learning how to think like a hacker and how to use the tools hackers use to penetrate network defense. The program is one of the few of its kind in the country and is unique in the state of Ohio. Students also gain a strong foundation in business administration, developing strong problem solving and communication skills necessary to function with end-users and decisions makers throughout all levels of the organization.

As Reid continues to explore the world of Information Security, she shares that her dream job would be to work as a Privacy Analyst, allowing her to educate people on how to protect themselves from dangers such as digital security threats.
