Shawnee State University’s Office of Admissions will host its annual Pre-Med Day on Saturday, Feb. 14. The event welcomes high school students and parents interested in learning about the Pre-Med program at SSU.
SSU’s Pre-Med program is designed to prepare students for medical school. The classes offer a strong foundation in biology, scientific research skills and hands-on experience, including an advanced human anatomy course that allows students to participate in a human cadaver dissection lab.
Shawnee offers early assurance programs into medical and professional schools with Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Dental Medicine and School of Podiatric Medicine. Students may apply to Shawnee State’s undergraduate program and to medical or professional school at the same time through the early assurance program.
Pre-Med Day gives attendees the chance to meet faculty, current students and successful alumni while exploring the university’s offerings for those going into professional health fields. The day includes interactive workshops, academic presentations, a cadaver lab tour, lunch and guided campus tours, along with opportunities to learn about the MCAT, course scheduling and alumni experiences. High school juniors and seniors can receive campus visit verification forms from admissions staff.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Clark Memorial Library Rotunda on campus, and the event officially begins at 9 a.m. To learn more about the event or to register for SSU’s Pre-Med Day, visit shawnee.edu/premed-day.
