The 85-ton all-electric machine expands lab capacity and supports program growth by allowing more students to participate in hands-on learning by producing plastic parts and gaining experience with industry-standard equipment used in today's manufacturing environments. It also introduces students to a different manufacturer, broadening their exposure to the tools and technologies found in the workforce.

"This addition represents a meaningful investment in our students and the future of advanced manufacturing at Shawnee State," said Adam Miller, interim dean of the College of Business and Engineering Technology. "Expanding our equipment strengthens hands-on, career-ready learning while reflecting a growing partnership with industry leaders and alumni that will continue to benefit our students and region."

ENGEL is a global leader in injection molding technology, supplying advanced machinery and automation solutions to industries such as automotive, medical, packaging and consumer products. The company is known for its focus on innovation, efficiency and smart manufacturing systems.

“ENGEL is proud to partner with Shawnee State University to help strengthen the talent pipeline for advanced manufacturing,” said Vanessa Malena, President Americas, ENGEL. “By bringing industry-grade injection molding technology into the university, students gain hands-on experience with the equipment, and process discipline they’ll use in the field. This collaboration reflects our commitment to workforce development and to preparing the next generation of engineers and technicians with the practical skills employers need.”

The partnership with ENGEL was made possible by Shawnee State University alumni serving on the university’s Industry Advisory Board, highlighting the importance of industry collaboration in shaping academic programs and student success.
