Shawnee State University’s Office of the Provost has appointed Jeff Hamilton as Dean of Students, following his interim appointment.
Hamilton brings extensive leadership experience to the position, with a longstanding history at Shawnee State. From 2008 to 2023, he served as the university’s Director of Athletics, overseeing the growth of the athletic department to 22 varsity teams. Under his leadership, Shawnee State celebrated multiple national championships in men's basketball, esports, and indoor track and field.
In 2023, Hamilton transitioned into the role of Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations, where he worked to strengthen partnerships with local businesses, private foundations, alumni and advisory and volunteer boards in support of the university's mission.
Hamilton was appointed Interim Dean of Students in 2024, where he quickly reconnected with students across all levels of their university experience.
"It's been an exciting year serving as interim dean and reconnecting with our students at every stage of their Shawnee State experience," Hamilton said. "Seeing their growth — from when they arrive as freshmen or transfer students to when they fully engage in campus life — is incredibly rewarding, and I'm excited to continue that work as dean of students."
As Dean of Students, Hamilton will serve as a key resource for Shawnee State students. This role encompasses overseeing student support services, managing student conduct and disciplinary matters, and fostering a positive campus environment.
"Our students are doing amazing things in and beyond the classroom, and it's rewarding to see their success," Hamilton said. "I'm grateful for a strong team and look forward to continuing the growth and momentum at Shawnee State."
Hamilton holds a master's degree in athletic administration from Ohio University and a bachelor's degree in history from the College of Wooster.
