Student-veteran Stephanie Stamer is on a path to pursue a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, with her first step majoring in Exercise Science at Shawnee State University.

“I chose Exercise Science with Pre-Physical Therapy as my major because the classes are exactly what I need for a program the Army offers through Baylor University to get my DPT,” she said. “I am excited to continue my education and career in the Army as a Physical Therapist and a soldier.”

Stamer has been able to connect with several resources at the university to continue on her successful path.

“Shawnee provides me with reduced tuition due to being an active-duty soldier,” she said. “The Army provides sixteen credit hours paid each year. My chain of command allows me to attend classes during the work day. My family supports and encourages me to follow through on my goals. I honestly couldn’t complete schooling if the Army, Shawnee State University, faculty, my family, and friends didn’t provide the support and encouragement I receive daily. I am truly grateful.”

Collaborating with the Office of Career Services, SSU’s Women’s & Gender Equity Center is celebrating students who “Flip the Script” on gender stereotypes and enter the programs they are passionate about. Throughout the week and into April, the center will be sharing several spotlights to encourage others to “Flip the Script”.
