Shawnee State University has announced the 2022 Faculty Awards. As part of this year’s presentation, the recipient of the Shannon Lawson Faculty Service Award is Dr. Marc Scott. An Associate Professor of English, Dr. Scott has been with the university’s Department of English & Humanities since 2012.

In the past ten years at SSU, Dr. Scott has served in several leadership roles within the university, including as Writing Center Director, Interim Director of Developmental Writing, Interim Director of Composition, Bridge to Success Director, Faculty Senate President, and currently serves as Director of Assessment & Accreditation. He has served on several committees within the university including most recently on those for Ad Hoc Master’s Degree, Composition Oversight, Academic Resource Management, Celebration of Scholarship, Faculty Assessment, and the Veteran’s Committee.

“It’s an honor to be recognized with the Shannon Lawson Award,” he said. “Dr. Lawson was a friend and worked tirelessly to support students and faculty. It’s a special award and I’m honored.”

Dr. Scott received his Associate in Arts in General Education from Grossmont Community College and then his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at San Francisco State University. He then went on to receive a Master of Arts in Literature & Writing Studies from California State University San Marcos and a Ph.D. in Rhetoric & Professional Communication from New Mexico State University.

The Shannon Lawson Faculty Service Award memorializes the impact of the late Dr. Shannon Lawson through her service to both the Portsmouth area and the university. The annual honor is awarded for dedication to service in the form of committee work, leadership roles within the university, and promoting activities focused on campus service and outreach.
