National best-selling author Serena B. Miller and owners of the L.J. Emory Publishing Company were welcomed in Dr. Jason Lovins’s marketing management class on Nov. 17 in the Shawnee State University School of Business for a marketing proposal.

Miller and the company partnered for several weeks with the class for an “agency project” in which the marketing students assumed the role of a professional agency, studying the company’s current marketing situation and proposing a strategic marketing plan for current and future works. The company will be able to use the plan and student-created materials in real promotions. Special guest and fellow national bestselling author Kay Lyons accompanied Miller for the visit.

The proposal was the 25th agency project partnering with regional businesses and non-profits since Dr. Lovins established the model for SSU’s marketing degree in 2018 to help students build field experience with real clients.

SSU’s Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing is designed to teach concepts as well as applied principles, with opportunities to work in professional environments. The program partners with local businesses, non-profits, and other organizations to provide the students with hands-on experience in the most-recent marketing trends. Students in the program also spend a substantial time learning to use technology to solve specific marketing problems.
