Writing a resume for the first time or making some major changes? Don’t sweat it! Be sure to check out our guides and videos on this page to help you create your first draft. You can also use search engines to find examples of different types of resumes to give you some ideas and help you get started. Do not use a template to create a resume, as they make it difficult to edit your resume and make changes in the future.
After you have a draft, make an appointment to have your resume and/or cover letter critiqued by one of the Career Staff staff, or stop by one of our monthly resume clinics! You can also upload your resume to Ohio Means Jobs to have it “graded” and compared to other resumes for free.
Below are some resume tips to help you get started:
The chief function of a resume is to persuade an employer to grant you an interview. Thus, your resume must interest an employer by telling him or her who you are, what kind of work you can do for him, and how you are qualified.
It is common for employers to request a cover letter to accompany your resume. Learn more about cover letters here.
