Madison Justice,
Psychology Major

April 28, 2023

Graduating with a degree in Psychology, Madison Justice (Hometown: Wayne, West Virginia) has found her education at Shawnee State University to be preparing her for a future of helping others help themselves. She first decided to choose her major after taking an intro-level course with psychology professor Dr. Rhoni Maxwell-Rader.

“While I was taking my intro to psychology with Dr. Rader, this is when I recognized this program could be interesting,” Justice said.

After joining the Psychology program, Justice joined both the Psi Chi International Honor Society for Psychology and the Psychology Club. In addition to those programs, she has been active in several organizations on campus including Student Programming Board and the Theta Phi Alpha sorority. In both her academics and her social life on campus, Justice feels she has gained valuable skills for her future.

“I have been able to take more steps toward my future goal of helping people,” she said.

Not knowing all that the field of Psychology could bring her, Justice now encourages other students to take a leap of faith and explore the major.

“I do not regret it, and I think it has been very beneficial to my life,” she said. “I have learned so much and the faculty is so supportive I couldn't have made a better decision for my future.”

SSU’s Psychology program allows students to gain new insights into the ways that people think, feel, and behave. Students graduating from the program are prepared for careers in education, social service, health care, mental health services, law, and business. Many graduates have pursued graduate and professional degrees in social work, counseling, psychology, medicine, law, and neuroscience.
