Shawnee State University alumnus Jeremy Litteral will serve as this autumn’s Commencement Speaker for the Class of 2022. A 2007 graduate of SSU’s Middle Childhood Education program, Litteral is the current Superintendent of Minford Local Schools in Minford, Ohio.

As a student at SSU, Litteral was a member of the Apple Group – a student organization cultivating future teachers, the National Honor Society, and won the Award for Excellent Student in Middle Childhood English Education. Following his graduation, he began his career in education as a teacher at Jackson City Schools, where he spent five years.

In 2012, Litteral spent a year as High School Principal at Amanda Clearcreek High School before moving to Minford Local Schools. He spent two years as Elementary Principal before being named Assistant Superintendent in 2015. A year later, he was named Superintendent, a position he still holds today.  

Litteral also served as an adjunct in the English & Humanities Department for SSU from 2011 to 2015. He is a lifelong resident of Scioto County and is a first-generational teacher and student. He earned his Master’s of Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati and his Superintendent License from Ohio University. He is an active member of the Coalition of Rural & Appalachian Schools (CORAS), attends professional development sessions with the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA), and serves on various committees locally including advisory boards at SSU. In 2014 he earned the CORAS Excellent Principal Award from Ohio University.

Shawnee State University’s Autumn Commencement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 12 p.m. in the Eloise Covert Smith Theater of the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.
