Meet Brayden.

A Pre-Med student at Shawnee State University, Brayden Yarnell, has found a sense of community within the program due to the close-knit educational environment.

“At Shawnee State University, the faculty go above and beyond to ensure that no student is left unnoticed,” Yarnell said.

According to Yarnell, a standout feature of Shawnee State’s Pre-Med program is the Cadaver lab, which grants students a unique advantage in future medical programs before medical school.

“There are plenty of research opportunities here as I have had the chance to work closely with Dr. Burns in microbiology on oral streptococci research,” he said. “Dr. Burns stayed long hours to ensure my research partner and I had everything we needed.”

Student clubs, such as Tri Beta, Chemistry, and Pre-Med, host events and bring in speakers to help students become strong applicants. Students can have peace of mind with Shawnee’s Early Assurance Program with the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, which guarantees a spot and waives the MCAT for accepted students.

“I plan to become an emergency room physician in an underserved area,” says Yarnell. “I’m confident that Shawnee State University has prepared me for success.”
