The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Shawnee State University will host the fall meeting of the Ohio Section Mathematical Association of America (MAA) on October 25 and 26.

The MAA is the world’s largest community of mathematicians, students, and enthusiasts focused on furthering the understanding of our world through mathematics because it drives society and shapes lives. Their mission is to advance the understanding of mathematics and its impact on the world.

“The Mathematical Sciences Department is delighted to host the fall 2019 meeting because this is a great opportunity for our math faculty and students to learn of the advances in mathematics and in teaching that are happening across other Ohio institutions and at Marshall University,” said John Whitaker, Professor of Mathematical Sciences at SSU.

The meeting will feature a panel of invited speakers who are sponsored by CONCUR (Committee on Curriculum) to discuss “My Experience Teaching a Co-Requisite Course.” Panelists include Emily Dolsak , Youngstown State University, Shannon Miller-Mace, Marshall University, and Najat Baji, Sinclair Community College. Key speakers include Barbara Margolius, Cleveland State University and Brian Shelburne, Wittenberg University, along with two presentations by MAA Section visitor, James Sellers, University of Montana. Contributed paper sessions will also take place on Friday and Saturday.

All graduate and undergraduate students in mathematics or related fields are encouraged to attend.
