Dismissal Policy
You may be dismissed from the MBA program if you engage in behavior that violates the SSU Student Conduct Code or a program policy. For example, you may be dismissed if you:
- Do not maintain a 3.0 average in your coursework;
- Repeatedly fail to participate in courses for an extended period;
- Commit a serious act of academic misconduct, such as submitting work created by another (person or AI) as your own; or falsifying records for research and/or capstone projects.
Inappropriate acts not listed above may also be considered grounds for dismissal at the discretion of the MBA Program Director.
Readmission Policy for Dismissed Students
If you are dismissed from the program and wish to appeal your dismissal, contact the MBA Program Director (via email) to request a meeting. This meeting may take place in person, virtually, or via telephone as needed. Following the meeting, the MBA Program Director will notify you of the decision within two working days. If you are not satisfied with the results of your initial appeal, you may request (in writing) an appeal hearing. The MBA Program Director will arrange a meeting with you, the Director of the C. H. Lute School of Business (or designee), the Dean of the College of Professional Studies (or their designee), and the Provost (or their designee). This meeting may also be held in a virtual or face-to-face manner. You will be notified of the results of this appeal hearing within two working days following the meeting.
During your dismissal appeal, we will consider your past academic achievement, your rationale for your current grade status, and our prediction of future performance in the program. We may consult MBA Graduate Program Faculty who have worked with you in previous courses as we make our determination. Dismissal from the program is not the same as dismissal from the university. SSU dismissal policies are outlined in the SSU catalog under “Academic Policies and Programs."
Readmission Policy for Voluntary Withdrawl
Any student who chooses to withdraw from the program for personal reasons may apply for readmission. Because of the limited class space, you may only be considered for readmission if space is available in the current class. A formal written request must be submitted to the MBA Program Director, who will consult with individuals in the MBA Graduate Program Faculty and the Director of the C. H. Lute School of Business. These individuals will review the applicant’s work in the program and space availability. If a consensus cannot be reached among these individuals, the majority preference will rule. The MBA Program Director will then notify the student in writing of the group’s decision regarding readmission, including any specific recommendations, requirements, or conditions pertaining to the student’s continuation in the program. Students readmitted to the program after a period of more than 5 years may be required to retake some or all of the MBA courses.
