Writing a resume for the first time or making some major changes? Don’t sweat it! Be sure to check out our guides and videos on this page to help you create your first draft. You can also use search engines to find examples of different types of resumes to give you some ideas and help you get started. Do not use a template to create a resume, as they make it difficult to edit your resume and make changes in the future.
After you have a draft, make an appointment to have your resume and/or cover letter critiqued by one of the Career Staff staff, or stop by one of our monthly resume clinics! You can also upload your resume to Ohio Means Jobs to have it “graded” and compared to other resumes for free.
Below is some resume tips to help you get started:
- Chronological Resume: This style is good for recent graduates or if you have continuous employment in your area of interest.
- Functional Resume: This is best for those changing careers or that have a large gap in employment.
- Combination Resume: Use this type of resume if you have significant experience related to a position, or maybe if you are making a career change.
