Shawnee State University’s Student Nurses Association (SNA) recently hosted the Air Evac Lifeteam 97 of Portsmouth, Ohio on campus. During the meeting, the Lifeteam discussed their roles on the aircraft, explained their background, recent experiences, and showed the students around the helicopter.

“The experience with the AirEvac team was like no other,” SSU SNA President Jaymes Johnson said. “I was so excited to have the AirEvac Lifeteam come to campus. It had been a dream of mine to have them come with their helicopter since I had obtained my position.”

During the visit, Johnson and his classmates learned details about the aircraft and how the paramedic and nurse work collaboratively together during flight to care for the patient. The experience has Johnson considering a possible future with the Air Evac Lifeteam.

“The opportunity to sit down and talk with the AirEvac Lifeteam definitely opened my eyes to the other possibilities of nursing in the world and has added another choice for my career path,” he said. “Nursing is such a giving career, and it is amazing how many careers are available in this profession.”

SSU’s School of Nursing offers many pathways into the nursing industry – the Associate Degree of Nursing, LPN-RN Pathway, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and the fully online RN-BSN Pathway. The programs have been regionally-recognized for their excellence in the classroom, in clinical setup, and for job placement after graduation.
