Free immersive STEM program for students in grades 6-8 at Shawnee State University
Shawnee State University is partnering with Verizon and the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) to offer a free project-based immersive STEM program, Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers, for middle school students starting Jun. 10.

SSU’s Howard gains fulfillment and confidence through study abroad experience in Peru
A Minford, Ohio native and member of the Ohio Army National Guard, Jared Howard decided to attend Shawnee State University to pursue a Nursing degree after returning from active duty where he was stationed in multiple locations around the world for seven years. Adding to his world travels, he recently had the opportunity to participate in a trip to Peru as part of his Spanish minor.
SSU’s Dr. Stanley Workman performs at international music festival in Brazil
Shawnee State University Assistant Professor and Artistic Director of the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts, Dr. Stanley Workman, was a featured instructor and performer at the 45th International Summer Course, an annual two-week music event held at the University of Brasilia in Brazil.

SSU’s Waits sees Psychology degree as the start to helping others
A senior in the Psychology program at Shawnee State University, Aimee Waits will obtain her dream this summer of being the first in her family to receive a college degree. An Adams County native, Waits originally chose SSU because it allowed her to work on her degree while remaining close to friends and family.
SSU’s Leist carries on family tradition in Education program
In his freshman year at Shawnee State University, Neil Leist feels he is driven to help teach those with learning challenges through Shawnee State University’s Intervention Specialist program in the School of Education.

Choosing SSU because it was close to home, Leist was thankful to receive scholarship assistance to allow him to focus more on his studies rather than worrying about the cost of attending college.
SSU junior lands Cybersecurity internship at the state level
Shawnee State University to host Cub Camp summer program Jun. 24-27
Shawnee State University’s 2024 Cub Camp program will be held Jun. 24-27. Held annually on SSU’s campus, Cub Camp is a summer academic enrichment program designed to spark the imagination and expand the knowledge of those children who have completed grades Pre-K – 8th Grade. The four-day camp hosts multiple sessions for children to explore their creativity, learn new skills, and spend time on SSU’s campus.

SSU senior prepping for exploration through Geology, Biology and Zoology
A senior at Shawnee State University, Layne Williams is dual-majoring in Geology and Biology with a minor in Zoology. Growing up in Flatwoods, Kentucky, Williams has always loved bugs, reptiles, plants, and animals. Being outside in nature and learning how and why things work is what led her to pursue multiple degrees.
