SSU Distributes Trees, Launches Interactive Online Walking Map, Trails

Shawnee State University students grew more than 700 trees this spring and about 300 were given away July 27-28 as part of a National Arbor Day celebration.

Arbor Day is usually celebrated nationally in April, but alternate events were encouraged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since SSU was on pandemic lockdown in April, the Department of Natural Sciences arranged to give away the trees in July instead.

Shawnee State University Board of Trustees to meet June 26

The Shawnee State University Board of Trustees will meet Friday, June 26, at 4:30 p.m. in the Morris University Center Ballroom, located on the Shawnee State University campus.

The Executive Committee of the Board will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.  The Finance and Administration Committee will meet at 2:00 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.  The Academic and Student Affairs Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendees are expected to wear a mask.

In-person Classes Planned for Fall Return to Shawnee State University

Shawnee State University President Jeff Bauer announced plans to return to campus in a phased approach over the summer leading to the Aug. 24 start of fall semester.

“We look forward to welcoming all of our new and returning students back to campus this fall,” Bauer said. “As our state, nation and the world continue to respond to the coronavirus pandemic, we are taking steps to ensure that our return to campus is done safely.”

Shawnee State Graduate, 17, Receives Bachelor’s and High School Degrees Through College Credit Plus

One of the youngest graduates from Shawnee State University received her degree during the Spring 2020 Commencement May 16.

Abby Keith, 17, finished the academic year earning both her high school diploma and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
