At Shawnee State, we are focused on your career starting on your first day as a nursing student. Our partnership with SOMC provides clinical experiences, mentorship, and support for future nurses.
- Clinical Experiences: Shawnee State nursing students gain hands-on learning experiences at SOMC, a magnet-recognized hospital. Magnet designation is the highest national honor for excellence in nursing.
- SSU-SOMC Sim Lab: Shawnee State and SOMC share an advanced patient care simulation lab with high-tech mannequins and equipment to test nursing students’ clinical and assessment skills in a safe and supportive learning environment. The lab is located at SOMC with educational support provided by experienced SOMC nurses.
- Nursing Intern Program: SOMC offers second-semester Shawnee State nursing students opportunities to work as nursing interns. Through the program, future nurses are paired with experienced SOMC nurses who provide education and mentorship to help you successfully launch your career – and advance the nursing profession.
