Learn to think more carefully, argue more clearly, and read the world more closely — in a focused 15-credit minor that pairs with almost any major.
Why add a Philosophy Minor at Shawnee State
A two-course core in logic and introduction to philosophy gives you the conceptual tools; two more philosophy electives let you pursue what interests you (political philosophy, philosophy of religion, Asian philosophy, philosophy and film, philosophy of sport, special topics).
A required ethics course rounds out the minor with applied thinking about public and private life.
Useful across careers — law, public policy, education, counseling, journalism, theology — and a strong foundation for graduate study.
Small, discussion-driven classes mean you talk through ideas, not just read about them.
What you'll study
The minor is 15 credit hours: a 6-credit philosophy core, 6 credits from a curated elective list, and a 3-credit ethics course. A grade of C or better is required in every course, and pass/no-credit courses don't apply.

- Electives (6 credits, choose two): PHIL 3360 Political Philosophy; PHIL 2230 Philosophy of Religion; PHIL 2284 Asian Philosophy; PHIL 2999 Topics in Philosophy; PHIL 3300 Philosophy and Film; PHIL 3340 Philosophy of Sport; PHIL 4999 Special Topics in Philosophy
