Shawnee State University students compete in Intercollegiate Student Kendo Tournament
Shawnee State University recently hosted the 2024 Intercollegiate Student Kendo Tournament on campus. The first local invitational was held in 2014 with the goal of providing an opportunity for student-led organizations to engage with kendo practitioners – kendoka – from other institutions throughout the region. This year’s tournament featured representatives from SSU, Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, and Ohio University.

Shawnee State University to host Celebration of Scholarship Apr. 8-12
Shawnee State University’s annual Celebration of Scholarship conference will be held on campus the week of Apr. 8. The academic conference features students in baccalaureate and graduate programs across SSU’s campus delivering presentations that share their research in the field, creative work in the visual and performing arts, community service, and study abroad.
SSU Clark Planetarium to host Solar Eclipse Watch Party
Shawnee State University’s Clark Planetarium will host a Solar Eclipse Watch Party on Monday, Apr. 8 for campus and the community to attend.
]Starting at 1:30 p.m. and lasting until 4:00 p.m., the event will feature a livestream of the National Aeronautics & Space Administration’s (NASA) eclipse feed in the Clark Planetarium, located in the Advanced Technology Center.
SSU’s Caudill preparing to teach kids through Early Childhood Education program
Scarlett Caudill always knew she wanted to teach younger kids. The Portsmouth, Ohio native, who has always had a passion for English, decided to broaden her education at Shawnee State University. A junior in the Early Childhood Education program, Caudill also has minors in Spanish and teaching English to non-English-speaking students.

SSU Kricker Innovation Hub to host Ignite Portsmouth starting May 8
Shawnee State University’s Kricker Innovation Hub (KIH) has announced the return of the Ignite Portsmouth Entrepreneurship Boot Camp for its fourth year. The eight-week program kicks off on May 8 and will culminate in a pitch competition. Participants will pitch their own business ideas in front of a panel of judges and the winner will receive a cash prize and the opportunity to pitch in front of the Tri-State Angel Investment Group. The bootcamp will be held in Scioto County at the KIH facility located at 221 Chillicothe Street in Portsmouth.
