Kevin Colley’s love for sports began when he was only 12 years old. He loves that each sport has different talents that fans and athletes can equally appreciate. So, he pursued a career that would allow him to work within his passion for his entire life. As a sports management alumnus, Kevin is living his dream by writing about sports at the Scioto Voice and announcing them as well.
While working on his degree Kevin was able to get experience within the field by touring a game situation, where participants would keep statistics or manage sales, depending on their interest and anticipated career. Kevin was even able to write for the Portsmouth Daily Times during his junior and senior year, helping to build his resume and gain experience.
“My dream, I’m kind of living it. I’m doing what I set out to do and I have a great wife, family and friends that have been behind me every step of the way. The staff has been very helpful and influential. They’re why I’ve been able to pursue my dreams because they gave me chances I needed to be able to develop as a writer.”
Kevin says his college career truly shaped him into the person he is today. Professors who take the time to care for their students make a large difference in a college career, and Shawnee State’s small student-to-professor ratio allows faculty to focus on their students’ needs. Kevin has been living his dream for almost five years now and hopes to continue to write and announce sports, thanks to the sports management program.
