What Can I Do With This Major?

About Early Childhood Special Education

The methods, perspectives, and technology in special education may be changing rapidly, but the heart of this field is the same: every student, regardless of ability, deserves the chance to excel at life. Shawnee gives you the education you need to advocate for students with special needs and help them learn and grow.

Special Education Careers

After graduating from the dual-licensure early childhood special education degree program at Shawnee State (and passing the Ohio mandated licensure exams), you'll be ready to begin your career in special education schools across Ohio.

Graduate Programs

Students may choose to go on for further studies in Curriculum & Instruction, Intervention, or to aid the visually impaired. Master's degrees in Curriculum & Instruction or Intervention Specialist can be completed in five semesters. The course work in these programs combines face-to-face and online classes to meet the scheduling needs of working teachers and educational professionals. If you're a student seeking to join this program before earning your initial teaching license, you can work with a faculty advisor to find a completion plan that fits your goals.
