The Network
UIS
is committed to a state of the art computer network that offers
timely access to campus resources as well as the ability for
users to communicate on and off campus.
Utilizing
fiber optics transmission media, the campus LAN delivers 100Mbps
of managed bandwidth to the desktop. It is further comprised
of routable, load-balanced SmartSwitches that are logically
and physically sub-netted via VLANS, responsible for optimizing
transmissions and reducing broadcast traffic, with built in
fault tolerance.
For
public and off-site access, UIS supports 2 T-1 Leased Lines
that offer 48 digital modems with the potential to transmit
at 56Kbps, and connects to a remote access server/internet
authentication server for dial-up services. Integrated with
Active Directory for a single network sign-on, most network
resources will soon be available remotely. Further plans to
provide a VPN connection to the RAS server will, when complete,
allow access to the campus network via a secondary ISP.
Security
UIS is committed to optimal network security and integrity using the latest intrusion detection and Firewall technologies.
