About University Information Services

Shawnee State University looks forward to offering the latest computer technology available to its students, faculty and staff and is charged to ensure that each maintains the competencies necessary to function in and adapt to an ever-changing technological world. Over 500 student computers, all of which are less than 3 years old, are available to students from 32 labs on campus. The university also offers free Internet dial-up services to each student, faculty and staff member, as well as a campus email account.

The University Information Services Department (UIS) supports all technology and telecommunication functions on the campus including academic computing, administrative computing, telephone services as well as network (including Internet) connectivity. The UIS department assists students in preparing for the changing needs of business, industry, education and society by ensuring that current technologies are in place and working in all academic areas. UIS further assists the university in fulfilling its mission via a long-term commitment to a state of the art computer network that offers timely access to campus resources as well as the ability for users to communicate on and off campus.

The UIS staff, consisting of 16 full-time personnel and 7 part-time employees, is dedicated to providing 24 x 7 service to ensure that mission critical functions are operational. The department is sub-divided into multiple service areas/functions including Information Technology, Administrative Computing, Help Desk, Internet Development and Higher Education Information (HEI) Management.

For information on our department guidelines and procedures, please see UIS Departmental Guidelines and Procedures.

What's Happening in UIS

Additional Email Storage for Employees

UIS is currently engaged in efforts to meet the growing needs of the campus for additional email storage capacity. This added storage is being provided as a short term resolution to current capacity constraints. In the near future UIS will work with the campus to discuss options as we work together on improving email services and planning for growth. Until then, we hope this additional space will help you manage your increased email volume.

Visit our web page often for more details on this Email Storage Expansion. Important facts you should know are:

  • Email storage limits are increasing for Faculty and Staff only. This does not impact students.
  • Email storage limits are increasing from 250 megabytes to 500 megabytes.
  • Administrative Offices will be expanded beginning mid-December and continuing through the month of December.
  • The Faculty and all other members of the Academic departments are scheduled to transition beginning on or after January 14th.
  • Each department will be given a specific date for their expansion, and the entire department will be transitioned on the same evening.
  • A small number of departments will be transitioned on each evening.
