Grading Standards

Writing Center tutors cannot grade papers. Tutors will not tell students what grade they think a paper deserves.

The criteria used to evaluate a paper can vary from assignment to assignment, from course to course, from department to department. The grading criteria used in English 1101, 1102, and 1105 are available on the Department's webpage. Note, however, that even though the classes have common grading standards, the assignments will vary. A narrative paper that earns an A in English 1101 cannot be submitted in lieu of a documented research paper in English 1105; if it were, the paper would fail to meet the requirements of the 1105 assignment, and it would receive a failing grade.

Students should consult their instructors to find out what grading criteria will be used in other courses.
