What is Tech Prep?

Tech Prep is a combined secondary and post-secondary program that is meant to provide students with a seamless transition from high school to college. The program is a result of a National Education Reform Initiative that was launched in 1991.

There are many advantages to being a Tech Prep student:

  • Preparation for employment, careers, and continuing education.

  • A hands-on, real world approach to teaching and learning that includes team work, worksite experiences, critical thinking and problem solving.

  • Integration of technical and academic curricula.

  • A competency-based curriculum that will enable students to certify their achievements.

  • A planned sequence of courses from high school through an associates degree and beyond

  • Articulated coursework including transcript credit, scholarship courses, and waived courses related to program area.

  • Early exposure to college through campus visits, conversations with college faculty and personal tours of college departments.

  • Early college placement testing to assess math and English competencies.

  • Technical certifications upon graduation from high school, and in some cases passing an examination (CAN, Phlebotomy, Dental Technician, and more).

  • Opportunities to work with professionals in business and industry prior to high school graduation.
