Business Technologies

Tech Prep Business Technologies is designed to prepare students for a wide range of business career opportunities.  Students learn accounting skills and multiple computer applications combined with legal and medical terminology, giving them more degree options in college.

Business Technology students learn the following skills:

  • Accounting

  • Computer applications (leading to MOS certification)

  • Information systems / processing

  • Legal terminology

  • Medical terminology

  • Business Communications

  • Office procedures

Career Opportunities  (after completion of 2 or 4 year degree):  

  • Accounting technician

  • Accountant

  • Microcomputer applications specialist

  • Software specialist

Engineering Technologies

The Tech Prep Engineering Technologies programs combine high level academics with technical training, enabling students to learn multiple skills related to this career area.

Engineering Technology students learn the following skills:

  • CADD (Computer Aided Drafting and Design)

  • Electricity and Electronics

  • Robotics related to industrial settings

  • Plastics molding techniques and mold design (Scioto Co. JVS only)

  • Computer Machining (CNC) (Scioto Co. JVS only)

  • Hydrolics / Pneumatics

  • Computers for engineering (hardware/software)

  • 3-D Modeling

  • Architecture / Surveying

  • Computer repair (A+) and troubleshooting

  • Computer language

Health Technologies

Tech Prep Health Technologies prepare students for a career in various health care fields.  Students graduate high school well prepared to continue their technical education in college or enter a hospital-sponsored nursing program.

Health Technology students learn the following skills:

  • Medical Terminology

  • Anatomy and Physiology

  • Phlebotomy

  • Patient Care

  • EKG (Collins Career Ctr. only)

  • Sports medicine (Scioto Co. JVS only)

Career Opportunities : 

  • Associate Degree Registered Nurse

  • Bachelor Degree Registered Nurse

  • EMT-P (Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic)

  • Medical Laboratory Technician

  • Clinical Pathologist

  • Athletic Trainer

  • Sports Manager


Information Technologies

The Tech Prep Information Technology Program is divided into four separate strands, each concentrating on a specific content area.  Three of the four strands are available in the Ohio South Tech Prep schools; Interactive/Multimedia Information Systems/Services, and Networking.  Each individual program introduces students to industry standard technical skills and computer applications specific to their career focus. 

IT/ISS students learn the following skills:

  • Computer hardware / software (leading to A+ Certification)

  • Electricity & Electronics

  • Computer Language ( Visual Basic, JAVA, Visual C++)

  • 3-D Modeling

  • HTML

  • Graphics & Design for web site, gaming and internet use

  • Networking – cabling and systems

Career Opportunities (after completion of post-secondary education):

  • Software application developer

  • Hardware engineer

  • Software engineer

  • LAN (local area network) specialist

  • Data communications specialist

  • Digital system designer

  • Web engineer

  • Game designer


IT/Networking (IT/NS)

IT/Networking students learn the following skills:

  • Computer hardware / software (leading to A+ and/or Cisco Certification)

  • Electricity & Electronics

  • Computer Language

  • Networking – cabling and systems

IT/Interactive Multimedia (IT/IM)

  • Graphics design / animation (PhotoShop, Quark, Illustrator, Free Hand, Bryce)

  • Web page design (Dream Weaver, Flash)

  • HTML

  • Video / Audio production

  • Interactive multimedia production
