The Addictions Studies Certificate Program
The Addictions Studies Certificate-program is designed for students who already possess a baccalaureate degree or are in the process of pursuing a baccalaureate degree in another discipline, and who wish to obtain a credential in the area of Addictions Studies. The program provides students with a knowledge base to be used in counseling, corrections, administrative, and prevention settings. Students must complete 30 quarter credit hours (10 courses) consisting of 8 required courses and 2 electives. All courses will be held on-site at Shawnee State University. Friday 6:30 p.m. – 9:10 p.m. 18-ADDC-401-797 Group Leadership Skills This course focuses on techniques, clinical skills, ethical issues, screening, goal setting, group development, advanced counseling skills, experimental activities, and time-limited group process. Saturday 10:30 a.m. – 1:10 p.m. 18-ADDC-510-797 Clinical Supervision This course is designed to introduce helping professionals to current perspectives on clinical supervision for substance abuse/dependency counselors. Saturday 1:30 p.m. – 4:10 p.m. 18-ADDC-332-797 Individual Counseling in Addictions This class will review four common theories of psychotherapy and their application in the addiction treatment setting.
