Who is eligible to receive the Microsoft software?

You must be a student, faculty, or staff currently affiliated with Shawnee State University. Microsoft has strict requirements for verification and tracking of software licenses issued through this contract.

Students

Students must be currently enrolled in at least one class that, when completed, will result in the awarding of credit hours verifiable through the Office of the Registrar. Your current enrollment will be verified before you will be eligible to purchase or borrow the software. You will be required to sign stating that you know your enrollment will be verified  to purchase or borrow the software. To purchase the software at the Bookstore or borrow it from the Library, you must present your Shawnee State University ID card.

Once you leave Shawnee State University as a student, you retain the legal right to the software licenses as long as you have registered with Microsoft and signed the Microsoft Select Student End-User License Agreement ("Student EULA").

Faculty and Staff

For university owned computers located on campus, you can request the installation of software from the University Information Services department. A request for software installation can be made by submitting an email to help_desk@shawnee.edu.

For home computers, you are permitted to borrow the software from University Information Services and use it on your computer at home, for as long as you are currently affiliated with Shawnee State University or until the Microsoft contract ends.

Before you will be eligible to check out the software, you will be required to sign the Shawnee State University Home Use Rights Agreement. Your current affiliation with Shawnee State University will be verified at the time you check out the software from the Help Desk.

Should you no longer be employed at Shawnee State University, you must uninstall all copies of the software from your home computers and return the borrowed copies of the software to the Help Desk. The license is the property of Shawnee State University and you do not retain the right to the licenses once you are no longer employed by Shawnee State University.

Who is not eligible?

Anyone not otherwise eligible as described above is not permitted to purchase or install the software. For example, the following people are not eligible:

  • anyone enrolled exclusively in non-credit courses
  • alumni
  • retired faculty or staff
  • visitors
  • parents, spouses or siblings of current Shawnee State University students
  • companies, and their employees, who have been hired by Shawnee State University on a contractual basis for services on campus or off campus.

If you have questions about eligibility, please contact the UIS Help Desk at 351-3538.
