Account Information for Faculty/Staff
Once the appropriate notification is received from Human Resources, UIS will create the Network/Email account for the new faculty/staff member. The MySSU account is created through an automatic process.
What is my Shawnee State staff account?
At Shawnee State University all staff members are provided a staff account that will provide them access to all campus computers. This account also establishes the email account for the individual. Each staff member has a mailbox size of 250 megs. If the mailbox contents exceed this size limitation then the mailbox will not be able to send or receive emails. You will receive notices when you are approaching the limit.
When is my staff account created?
Staff accounts are created as necessary. Although the Help Desk does get an official notification that an employee has been hired and that an account can be created. This notification can only be distributed after all official paperwork is completed and often it is after the new staff member has been on campus. It is suggested that the individual's supervisor send an email to Help Desk requesting an account be established for the new staff member.
How do I access my account?
Every staff member is provided a unique username and password. The usernames for staff are the first initial of your first name and your last name. For instance Mike Smith will be "msmith," without the quotes. If however there are two or more identical usernames then numbers are added to make each one different. For example, Tony Smith and Teresa Smith are each employees at SSU. Tony was hired prior to Teresa then Tony's email account will be "tsmith" and Teresa's will be "tsmith2." Please note that usernames are case sensitive and must always be in lowercase. For security purposes the initial password varies. The information regarding the account will be emailed to the individual that submitted the request to Help Desk but the password can not be reset until the new employee brings a staff ID to the Help Desk.
How do I change my password?
If it is your first time logging into your account you will be forced to change it then. Passwords must be at least eight (8) characters long and are case sensitive. UIS strongly encourages that passwords be complex passwords. Complex passwords contain a combination of uppercase, lowercase, numbers and special characters. If it is not your first time using your account you can press CTRL-ALT-DEL and you will see and option to change your password. Click on this option and follow the instructions on the screen.
What if I am not able to access my account?
To get help accessing your account you may visit the UIS offices in the basement of the Administration Building. Please note that before assistance can be provided you must present a picture ID. For security reasons, passwords will not be reset without a picture ID or over the telephone.
What is my email address?
Your email address at SSU is the same as your username. To receive off campus emails your address will be <username>@Shawnee.edu or if it is an on campus email it will simply be <username>.
Will my network/email password expire?
Yes. This password is set to expire every 90 days.
How do I reset an expired password from off campus?
When you attempt to log into webmail for faculty and staff you will be redirected to a site that will allow you to change your network/email password. This site will have four pieces of information Username, Old Password, New Password and Confirm New Password. In the Username field please type your full email address - email@example.com. Then tab down to complete the rest of the fields as indicated.
What is the MySSU Account?
This is the account used to access SSU's Web Portal. The MySSU account will also provide integrated logon for faculty using Blackboard.
When is MySSU Account created?
The MySSU account is created for all staff and faculty as part of the hiring procedure. Faculty accounts are created upon completion of all necessary paperwork in Human Resources and class assignment in the Registrar's office. Staff accounts are created when the Help Desk is notified of a new staff hire.
What is the MySSU User ID?
The UserID to access MySSU is your Shawnee State Employee ID that is assigned during the hiring process.
What is the MySSU Password?
Your initial password is your date of birth. If you were born on May 23, 1970 your initial password is 19700523. You are not forced to change this password; however, UIS strongly suggests that you do change the password upon your first successful logon. The new password can be no more than eight (8) characters long.
Dial-Up Connectivity is available to all Shawnee employees. For security purposes employees must request and complete an application that will provide a different username and password. The directions on how to establish the connection are available at the Help Desk or or on the UIS Web Pages. Please note this service is free but if you are not calling from a local telephone number you will be charged long distance fees by your telephone company.
The dial-up account will be terminated when the network/email account is deleted.
