Bubba's Banter

Hey folks,

At this point summer is right around the corner. There will be a lot of things happening in a short amount of time this summer. I hope that each of you is as excited as we are. Shortly, you will be receiving a summer schedule in the mail. This schedule only highlights some of the major things that will be going on, and give you and your parents an idea of when we will be on campus, and off campus.

Beginning on May 1st we will be conducting our last round of school visits. This will be our last opportunity to visit with seniors. I am very proud of our seniors this year. Each of you have represented the UBMS program in an exemplarily manner and it hasn't gone unnoticed. We wish you the best in your future endeavors and will be in touch with you throughout college. Remember, we are only a toll-free phone call away.

Ashley’s Advice

Hey Gang! We are getting close to the summer!! I hope you're as excited as I am! I can't wait to see all of you again! We have some fun stuff planned... so be prepared to get a little dirty... you never know what might happen with a bunch of RA's like us! I hope school is going well. I'm sure none of you have Senior-itus ;). (I promise that NEVER happened to me!! ha-ha). Just try to keep up with school. It's just as important now as it was at the start of the year. I know it might be tough to stay focused since the end of the year is around the corner and it's so sunny outside! I am looking forward to a great summer! See you all soon!

Steve's Schpill

Hey Gang! The summer is getting closer and closer and I hope that all of you are just as excited as I am. The schedule is just about complete and the last phone calls are being dialed. I can't wait to go out on some of these trips and getting to eat at all of these great places---yeah, those are my favorite calls to make---I love to order the food. I am also really looking forward to going out on school visits this month. Although I have met most of you new students at the parent meeting, it will be nice to talk to some of you as we come out and visit. Maybe finally putting a face with some of these names.

I'm sure all of you guys are counting down the days until the end, especially you seniors. You guys have finally made it! I want to Congratulate each of you. Hearing about all of the accomplishments and scholarships that you guys are receiving is outstanding! It has certainly been a pleasure meeting and being around you guys and I wish you all nothing but the best in the future. Please keep in touch. For the underclassmen, don't let up know. Yes, the days are counting down until summer vacation, but the grades you get now are just as important as the ones you got in the first week of school.

Last thing: Yes, I know I type a lot! I just wanna say....The Tanks are in!!!! Welcome Jessica Bowen to the program. We're happy to have you. GO SHERMANS!

Academic Tip of the Day:

Tips for acing short answer tests

  • Prepare for the test
by studying off of summary sheets that are packed with information within condensed space. Try to categorize the material
  • Use grammatical clues
within a statement as hints for the correct answer
  • If you can think of several answers
for a blank or short answer question, let the instructor know.
The instructor may give you a clue to the correct answer he/she's looking for
  • A guess made with common sense
could get you more test points than if you leave an answer blank.
Don't be a smart aleck if you guess
  • Write your short answers in simple, telegraphic sentences.
Packing as much information as you can is more important than literary style.

UBMS Photo Page

Heather Holland came up with the idea of sharing summer photos with one another through the internet.  She has setup a webpage through photobucket.com in which UBMS participants can share their photos and order a CD of photos if they desire.  The following are directions and a link so that you can view and upload your own photos.

  • save your pictures to a folder on your computer

  • go to www.photobucket.com

  • put in these two items:
    sign in name: UBMSsummer2005
    password: bubba

  • click on browse and find the folder your pictures are in

  • double click on the picture (it will bring you back to the main page) then click submit

  • it’ll take some time depending on how fast or slow your computer is, but your picture will load up there.

  • keep adding pictures from the summer, the final trip, anything to do with UBMS
