TO BECOME A TUTOR OR NOTE TAKER A STUDENT MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: Earned an A or B in each course that you would like to tutor Have a session and cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and will need to fill out the following registration:
Preparations, To Begin Tutoring or Note Taking: 1. Properly fill out the Tutor Registration or Request to be a Note Taker Form Form. Each semester, you must complete a new form with your new schedule. Forms cannot be carried over from one semester to the next because your schedule/available hours change. In subsequent semesters, please remember to submit your new form as soon as you register for the following semester. 2. Complete the appropriate paperwork in the Personnel Office. You cannot be paid until the paperwork in personnel is complete. You will need to provide personnel/payroll a driver’s license, student I.S., or another form of picture ID, your social security card or birth certificate for your personnel files. This should be done right after filling out a Request to Tutor form. 3. You will need to check your Shawnee email on a regular basis. You must promptly reply/confirm all schedules sent to you. You will be notified via Shawnee e-mail of the time and date of your tutoring sessions. Your phone number and e-mail address must be kept current and active to enable contact for your scheduled appointment. 4. Tutors and Note Takers are responsible for making sure timesheets are filled out neatly and accurately. If a tutee signs illegibly please print the tutees name under their signature. Tutors and Note Takers will be paid every two weeks. You cannot allow your hours to carry over from one pay period to the next. To do so may risk loss of hours due to you. Check with staff for due dates for timesheets to be turned in each pay period. 5. Tutor Training will be a requirement of all tutors before assignment of tutees. You will be required to make a copy in the Student Success Center of each tutee's class syllabus. 6. You are scheduled to assist students needing one-on-one assistance with their studies, study skills, etc. You are not to do their work for them. To do so could be plagiarism resulting in academic dismissal of both tutor and tutee. ***A tutor is responsible for contacting their tutee at least two hours before a session, if they need to cancel a session. Also an e-mail must be sent to tutor@mymail.shawnee.edu stating your name and the tutees name, date and time of session and that it is being cancelled.
