Institutional Research Analyst
A.B.D., Sociology & Women’s Studies, The Union Institute & University B.A., Psychology, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania M.A., Social Sciences, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania
I started my career in Institutional Research as a graduate assistant in the Office of University Planning, Institutional Research, & Continuous Improvement at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1995. During my time there, I often filled in for my supervisor completing reports, entering data from surveys, working with faculty from various departments to design surveys and analyze data, and working on a variety of projects. I enjoyed the work I did in the I.R. office and decided to pursue a career in I.R. after completing my Master’s degree. After graduating from Edinboro University in 1997, I came to Shawnee State University to become the Institutional Research Analyst, which, at the time, was a new position for both the University and for me. During my time here I’ve been asked to provide several internal reports, some of them very complex and challenging. At times, my responsibilities require me to collaborate with faculty, academic departments, information services, and other administrative offices, to provide data and reports to decision-makers that support the assessment, planning, enrollment management, continuous improvement, and accreditation efforts of both academic programs and the university. To meet these responsibilities, I collect and prepare data for analysis, manage databases, ensure data integrity, respond to internal and external ad hoc data requests, and prepare annual internal reports, such as the University’s Fact Book. I also complete several external reports for IPEDS, Peterson’s, College Board, Open Doors, U.S. News, AAUP, CUPA, and others. In my work, I always strive for accuracy and timely completion, which can be a challenge at times. From my Institutional Research experience, and my educational background in psychology, social sciences, and sociology, I have the necessary knowledge of research methods to conduct both quantitative and qualitative research, analyze quantitative and qualitative statistical data, and utilize statistical software (SPSS). I utilize Access, Word, and Excel on a daily basis for data analysis and report writing, and extract large amounts of data from our university system for these purposes. email: Kpatton@shawnee.edu phone: 740.351.3450 fax: 740.351.3413
