Responsible for programming and budget for all instructional areas, regional and specialized accreditation, programming in both vocational and academic areas, cooperative regional programming, the library, educational technology, grants and research, institutional assessment, extended programs, workforce training, and distance education. Serve on state-wide academic programming, inter-institutional cooperative programming, distance delivery, services for unprepared and underprepared populations and technical education committees. Library Science Chief academic/administrative officer for college with 1200
major, four undergraduate majors, one undergraduate minor and two
graduate programs. The college provided telecommunications and
academic computing support for the university. ***** Assistant to the Dean My responsibilities were in the areas of student academic standing, student problem solving, planning of special events, report writing, budget monitoring, course scheduling, classroom allocation and assisting the dean in general matters pertaining to the College. I served on the Academic Affairs Council, chaired the University's Professional Development Committee and co-chaired the President's Facility Capacity Task Force. ***** Coordinator I had interim responsibility for two off-campus sites for the University. My duties included program planning, market analysis, promotion and public relations, staff liaison with University departments, scheduling and budget management. I developed long term plans for programming in nursing and allied health and a Business professional development series. ***** Division Head This was a Dean's level position responsible for a division that
cut across the entire college. The division planned and offered the
integrated core curriculum required of all students and taught by
all faculty. I was responsible for supervision of 69 faculty
members, integrity of the core courses, duties related to membership
on the Dean's Council, preparation and management of an annual
budget of approximately $300,000, grant writing, catalog
preparation, course scheduling, faculty evaluation for promotion and
tenure, and faculty development activities. ***** Experimental College Administrator This experimental college was developed and run under the aegis
of a Kellogg Grant to the Council for the Advancement of Small
Colleges. It was held on the Bowdoin campus in Maine. Students and
faculty came from small colleges throughout the U.S. ***** Summer Forensics Workshops A summer forensics workshop for high school and college students and staff requires year-long planning, advertising, selection of staff and participants, coordination of living components, work with libraries and professional staffs, training of staff and teaching. Budgets usually exist in the form of a little seed money to get the program going and then the workshop must be self-supporting. During the period I worked with forensics, I directed Summer Forensics Workshops for my own programs at Illinois State University, Albion College and Southwest Missouri State University. I also directed workshops for Texas Christian University for three years. ***** Consortium Board As a member of the Board of the Northern Rockies Consortium for Higher Education (NORCHE), I participated in the writing, acquisition and administration of grants to improve education in our member universities. Our focus was upon faculty development, the improvement of teaching and curriculum integration. As I was also treasurer of the organization, I was responsible for an endowment of approximately $75,000 and grants that averaged $10,000 annually. ***** Faculty Development The Teaching Learning Committee at Montana State is a faculty
committee charged with improvement of teaching at the University.
Our annual budget was $100,000 from the general fund and an
additional $15,000 from grants. As a member of the committee I was
responsible for grant writing, program planning and development of
grant programs, administration of grants and evaluation of faculty
development activities. I did extensive work in writing across the
curriculum and critical thinking. ***** Slippery Rock University Associate Professor of Communication with responsibilities to
teach and develop offerings in organizational communication and
coordinate computer applications. Membership on the university's
Women's Studies Committee, the Department of Communication's
Curriculum Committee and chair of the Professional Development
Committee for the College of Information Science and Business
Administration. ***** Montana State University Assistant Professor of Communication, adjunct graduate faculty in
Political Science in the Public Administration Program, and an
Associate with the Forty Ninth Parallel Institute. Taught courses in
the areas of organizational and mass communication. Served on
graduate committees and directed one masters thesis. ***** Davis and Elkins College At this small liberal arts college I held an appointment as Head
of the Division of Integrated Studies and Assistant Professor of
English, Speech and Drama. I taught the majority of the
communication offerings and chaired a division (duties described
under administrative experience). I was responsible for development
of new curriculum in communication and the number of majors
increased 200% during my tenure. I also directed a small forensics
program. ***** Southwest Missouri State University My appointment was as Assistant Professor of Speech and
CoDirector of Forensics. I also served on the graduate faculty and
directed three master theses. My primary focus was upon the
forensics program. During my tenure the forensics teams at SMSU
attained national prominence and participated in the National Debate
Tournament. I also co-directed the basic communication course. ***** State University of New York at Buffalo As a graduate teaching and research assistant I was responsible
for teaching and doing research in organizational communication. I
also directed the forensics program and chaired the department's
admissions committee. ***** Albion College As a one-year, temporary appointment at this small liberal arts
college, I was an Instructor in Speech and Theatre and Director of
Forensics. My primary responsibilities were with the forensics
program which gained national recognition. I was also responsible
for supervising student teachers in speech. ***** Illinois State University As an Instructor in the Speech Communication Department (it
became the Information Science Department), I taught general
communication courses and served as Assistant Director of Forensics.
I also served on the departmental curriculum committee and advised
