 Job Description

Shawnee State University, an NCATE accredited institution located in picturesque, southern Ohio, invites applicants for one (1) continuing contract (tenure-track) faculty position with the Department of Teacher Education in the College of Arts and Sciences.  The successful applicant will teach graduate courses in curriculum and instruction and undergraduate courses in the professional education core and/or specific discipline areas; supervise professional field/clinical experiences; advise candidates; participate in the university, department, and program committees; engage in scholarly activities; and collaborate with university and PreK-12 school colleagues to further the department’s mission of preparing “learner-centered, inquiring professionals.”

 Minimum Qualifications

General Requirements

·       Earned doctorate in a related field (ABD acceptable if doctorate will be earned by June 2012)

·       Contemporary professional experiences in settings appropriate to teaching area

·       Demonstrated ability to utilize technology and multiple teaching methods

·       Preference may be given to candidates who have teaching experience and licensure/endorsement to teach reading and literacy as well as Early Childhood Education 

Position Requirements (Teacher Education/Curriculum & Instruction)

·       At least three years successful teaching experience at the P-12 levels

·       Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level

·       State licensure eligibility in one or more areas offered by the Department

·       A working knowledge of the current NCATE standards for the preparation of teachers

·       Familiarity with the program standards for the SPA associated with their licensure area

·       Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activities/research related to education and their teaching area

·       Willingness to teach courses in the graduate Curriculum and Instruction program as well as the undergraduate Teacher Education programs.

·       A background in reading and literacy is preferred
