Shawnee State University, a NCATE accredited institution located in picturesque, southern Ohio, invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position with the Department of Teacher Education in the College of Arts and Sciences.  The successful applicant will teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the professional education core and/or specific discipline areas; supervise professional field/clinical experiences; advise candidates; participate in university, department, and program committees; engage in scholarly activities; and collaborate with university and PreK-12 school colleagues to further the department’s mission of preparing “learner-centered, inquiring professionals.”  

Position Qualifications

General Requirements: 

  • Earned doctorate in a related field (ABD considered but the terminal degree must be earned upon  employment)

  • Contemporary professional experiences in settings appropriate to special education teaching area

  • Preference may be given to candidates who have graduate level teaching experience

  • Preference may also be given to candidates who have teaching experience and licensure/endorsement to teach reading/technology in addition to their primary teaching field

 

Position Requirements (Intervention Specialist/Reading/Teacher Education): 

  • At least three years of successful teaching experience in Special Education

  • Some successful teaching experience in higher education

  • Knowledge of CEC Standards for the preparation of Intervention Specialist educators

  • Familiarity with multi-age special education philosophies/approaches/perspectives

  • Developmentally appropriate practices for IS learning environment

  • Evidence of active involvement in scholarly activities and professional societies related to special   education

  • Ability to teach courses and provide field/clinical supervision in schools and agencies. 

  • A background in reading, diagnosis/assessment and/or technology is preferred.
