Shawnee State University is
seeking a visionary and creative individual for a full-time
administrative position in the Division of Academic Affairs as
Library Director of the Clark Memorial Library to begin winter
2013. The successful applicant will be expected to oversee,
plan, organize and direct library services for the university in
order to provide adequate and appropriate resources and services
to meet learning, teaching and research needs. This position
supervises an administrative team of five full-time librarians,
six support staff, and student employees. Position reports
directly to the Provost/VP for Academic Affairs.
Shawnee
is a founding member of OhioLINK and the director will be
responsible for maintaining and developing relationships and
services with other OhioLINK libraries. This means representing
the university at state wide meetings and viewing the Clark
Library’s mission as part of larger operating structure in the
state university system. |

Job Description |
-
Plans and administers the university program of library
services in order to provide adequate and appropriate resources
and services to meet learning, teaching, and research needs.

Develops long- and short-term goals and objectives for
services in consultation with university staff.
-
Reviews and
analyzes materials needed.
-
Develops, receives approval for, and administers a budget
which provides for attainment of agreed-upon goals.
-
Prepares and
administers grants as necessary.
-
Interviews, hires, trains, evaluates and recommend corrective
action needed for improved work performance of personnel.
-
Develops and administers policies and procedures for library
services in order to ensure optimum services and security of
materials. Revises policies as needed.

Routinely reviews work in progress in order to assist
personnel with more complex work-related problems.

Directs preparation of routine and special reports as
assigned.

Examines trade publications and materials, interviews
publisher’s representatives, and consults with others in order
to select materials.

Establishes and maintains working relationships with
university staff and students in order to ensure library
services meet university needs and represents the library in
external situations, both professional and civic in nature.

Prepares recommendations for physical facilities changes,
additions needed to assure proper levels of service.

Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in
the field for self and staff by reading, attending seminars,
conferences and the like.

Minimum Qualifications |
-
Master’s degree in Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited
institution (consideration of additional degrees such as
MBA, MPA, or JD).
-
Seven to ten years related experience in an academic library
with two years in management. Excellent interpersonal and
communication skills to coordinate library services.

Strong analytical skills to develop and administer
departmental goals.

Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of emerging
trends and new technologies in libraries.

Familiarity with systems of shared library resources such as
OhioLINK.

Targeted Salary Range |
$63,000 - $83,000 |
