CUSTODIAL EXAM

A custodial exam will be given in order to create an eligible list to fill custodial vacancies as they occur over the next one year.   This is the only time this test will be administered for the hiring year of 2008.   The primary duties of this position include the ongoing maintenance of floors(mopping/stripping/waxing/buffing/vacuuming/shampooing, etc.); dusting; and general cleaning of assigned areas using appropriate equipment; emptying and disposal of trash; replacing appropriate rest room supplies; cleaning windows, light fixtures, walls and ceilings; assisting in snow removal; perform "set ups" of furniture and equipment for internal and external functions as scheduled; other housekeeping duties, and other duties as assigned.  Must be able to apply a working knowledge of commercial cleaning chemicals, commercial cleaning equipment and techniques.  Prior custodial work experience helpful. 

IMPORTANT:   This position works under a self-directed work team concept with periodic team administrative functions assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications: Able to follow written directions and maintain logs; working knowledge of commercial floor cleaning chemicals; knowledge of commercial cleaning equipment and techniques; communication skills for necessary exchange of information with university personnel.  Job requires movement of heavy objects, access to difficult areas including areas reachable by ladder, cleaning and safe use of equipment (especially floor equipment) for a majority of work time.

Credit for Military Service:  Applicants who are residents of Ohio* and who have been honorably discharged from active duty in the armed forces of the United States are eligible to receive an additional credit of 20% on their examination in which a passing score is obtained.  Proof (i.e. copy of the DD-214, which must show the character of service as honorable) must be submitted prior to participation in the examination.

* Ohio residency for veteran credit and employment is waived for this position.

Eligible List:  When an applicant receives a passing score (75% or higher), their name is placed on the eligible list.  The eligible list is arranged according to examination scores from highest to lowest.  The eligible list will be used to fill current vacancies as they occur.  When there is a vacancy, the top ten (10) names of eligibles from which to choose from are provided for consideration.  The list is valid for one year.
