SSU Faculty and Staff Show Their Support For Poised for Tomorrow There’s an old saying that says “charity begins at home.” And the administration, faculty and staff of Shawnee State University definitely took that to heart as they donated over half a million dollars to the university’s capital campaign, Poised for Tomorrow. Nearly 94 percent of SSU employees donated to the campaign, raising nearly $580,000. The faculty and staff campaign kicked off in April 2006 and wrapped up six weeks later. Angela Henderson, assistant director, development/alumni affairs, who chaired the in-house effort, said the results were exceptional. “It just shows how much the future of Shawnee State, our students, and our entire community means to those of us who work here,” Henderson said. It’s an extraordinary accomplishment that has truly helped Poised for Tomorrow get off to a great start.” Henderson credits the campus volunteers for the success of the in-house campaign. “This would not have been possible without the hard work of these talented and dedicated individuals.” Shawnee State University President Rita Rice Morris said that the early success of Poised for Tomorrow, which has already raised 55% of its goal, is due in part to the widespread support it received on campus. “By adding their monetary gifts to the time and talents they already share with Shawnee State, our faculty and staff have made a true commitment to the future excellence of this university.” Poised for Tomorrow is a $12 million capital and endowment campaign to support a broad array of campus initiatives. Those initiatives include undergraduate research, new technologies, specialized studies, faculty development, scholarships, enhanced clinical experiences and an enhanced quality of life for the region.
