Shawnee State University's 20th Anniversary September 25-30, 2006 SSU celebrated its 20th anniversary as a university with a weeklong celebration in September. Many of the events were paid for by proceeds from the 2006 President's Gala.
The Distinguished Lecture Series and the Leslie Williams Symposium brought Anita Hill to campus.
Senior Ceramics Instructor Michael Olugbile demonstrates the making of pottery in a special "Lunch and Learn" presentation.
Portsmouth's own Kathleen Battle performed a special concert at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts. Here, Kathleen poses with SSU President Rita Rice Morris.
SSU students went back in time with the "Totally Awesome 80s Dance"
A Cake Decorating Contest was also part of the festivities.
City Councilman Howard Baughman (5th Ward) presents SSU President Rita Rice Morris with a proclamation honoring SSU's anniversary during the Community Picnic.
The community was invited to visit the SSU Mini-Zoo during the picnic.
