Starting
college is an exciting time for freshmen. Confronted with a
rich diversity of different people, new ideas and
opportunities for personal growth, it is a time when
freshmen begin to ask themselves several basic questions:
who am I, what's important to me, what do I want from life,
how do I achieve it? These are questions all people ask of
themselves at some point in their life. For college
freshmen, it is usually their first year on campus.
Also,
college is a time of change and adjustment. You will be
leaving many of your old friends behind and seeking out new
relationships and creating an identity for yourself on
campus. You will find increased freedoms but with that will
come more responsibility. As you move forward toward your
life goals, you will begin to separate from family and learn
to stand on your own.
College
will bring increased academic demands and expectations. In
order to be a successful student; refining your study
habits, learning to prioritize your tasks, managing your
time effectively and coping with stress will be a few of the
challenges you will face.
The
Office of Counseling and Psychological Services can assist
you in addressing these issues through confidential
individual counseling sessions or by participation in the
Office's skills development workshop series, which is
offered on campus on a regular basis.
