CONSTRUCTION TIMELINE



January 2008 Ground was broken on the University Center.

January-August 2008 Drill test wells: Consultants drilled test wells to determine the availability of ground water.

January-August 2008 Ground water capacity tests: Engineering firm performed testing to determine whether the capacity of the aquifer is sufficient to utilize ground water for condenser feed in lieu of a cooling tower.


January-August 2008 Final design documents completed: Architects completed final design documents, state drawing approvals & bid packages.

January-August 2008 Bid process: The bid process is a lengthy process which includes all appropriate approvals from the state. There are specific timelines set by the state for advertising, time for contractors to compile bids and notification procedures.


January-August 2008 Establish temporary parking & lay down area: In order to replace parking that was lost by the construction perimeter contractors have established a temporary gravel lot just east of the university center. A lay down area for materials is also in progress.

January-August 2008 Establish construction perimeter & pedestrian paths: For the safety of our students, faculty and staff the construction perimeter has been fenced off and alternate pedestrian paths have been established to provide safe access as well as handicapped accessibility. This effort will be ongoing as parking needs are identified and construction progresses.


January-August 2008 Utility coordination relocation: As a part of the University Center project there are major utility relocations required. A transformer near the UC has been relocated by Appalachian Electric Power and there are other utility relocations in progress.

Construction fencing in place and construction begins.

September 2008
Demolition of existing loading dock, south brick veneer and glazing, and miscellaneous items at north area of UC.

September 2008
Begin installation of HVAC wells and related infrastructure, and begin construction of Mechanical Room at ATC Building.

September 2008
Begin utility tunnel excavation and installation under footprint of new addition, and re-route water line and storm sewer lines around footprint of new addition.

October 2008
Installation of vaults on geothermal wells. Completions of condenser well water piping. HVAC underground piping to be completed.

October 2008
Site investigation for existing utilities continues during which old existing utilities will be removed. Gas line relocation to be complete along the building perimeter. Begin utility tunnel excavation.

October 2008
Complete installation of sanitation and storm sewers.
Completion of south UC demolition.

October 2008
ATC metal framing and drywall finishing to be completed. Finishing of ATC drywall and paint.

October 2008
Begin perimeter building foundations for the north UC expansion.

November 2008 Addition of perimeter building foundations for the south UC expansion.
November 2008 Interior foundation column pads for south UC expansion.
November 2008 South firewall complete and braced.
November 2008 Installation of concrete foundation walls for the north UC expansion.
November 2008 Completion of elevator in north UC expansion.
December 2008 Footings and foundations complete.
December 2008 Reception of structural steel
December 2008 Build up of building pads and prepare for pouring of building slabs.
December 2008 Pouring of building slabs.
December 2008 Complete utility tunnel walls and foundations.
December 2008 Installation of under slab utilities.
January 2009 All foundations, foundation walls and grade beams are complete.
January-February 2009 South-Under slab sanitary storm piping to be completed.
January-February 2009 South-Under slab electrical conduit to be completed.
January-February 2009 South-Structural steel erection and second floor/roof decking to begin and be completed.
March 2009 South-Light Guage Metal Framing, South Roofing, Sheathing and Masonry to begin. South Structural steel to be erected.
March 2009 North-under slab utilities to be completed. Selective demolition and framing of curtain wall, structural steel to be erected.
April 2009 South roofing to be completed, exterior walls going up and masonry complete on east end.
April 2009 North-Tie in to existing building structure. Curtain walls to go up.
